All Scripture is from the King James Version unless noted otherwise.
One of the books I will quote often in this booklet is, Illustrations of Masonry, by Captain William Morgan’. The subtitle of the book is: By One of the Fraternity Who has devoted Thirty Years to the Subject. We all owe a great debt to Captain Morgan for being the first person to ever expose and make public the teachings and ceremonies of Freemasonry. He did so with great cost to himself. Captain William Morgan became the first Masonic martyr. Many of the quotes of the actual ceremonies and vows of the Lodge will be quoted from this book that was first published in 1827. The introduction to the original edition states:
In the absence of the author, or rather compiler of the following work, who was kidnaped and carried away from the village of Batavia, [New York] on the llth day of September, 1826, by a number of Freemasons, it devolves upon the publisher to attempt to set forth some of the leading views that governed those who embarked in the undertaking.
The alleged agents in the abduction were put on trial between January 1827 and 1830, and several were convicted and sentenced, some pleading guilty to save examination as to conspiracy.
In 1848, one of the murders of Morgan made a full confession. Being near death from illness, Henry L. Valance, confessed the crime to clear his conscience that had been extremely troubled since his participation in the murder of Morgan. Henry L. Valance’s confession was recorded by Dr. John L. Emery of Racine County, Wisconsin, in the summer of 1848. In 1869, the Rev. Charles G. Finney, the great American revival preacher and president of Oberlin College published a book called, The Character, Claims and Practical Workings of Freemasonry. In his book Rev. Finney reproduced an earlier account of the confession of Henry L. Valance. It is from the book by Rev. Finney that I will now quote to show the heartless premeditated cruelty of this murder.
This ‘Confession’ was taken down as related by Henry L. Valance, who acknowledges himself to have been one of the three who were selected to make a final disposition of the illfated victim of masonic vengeance………. My last hour is approaching; and as the things of this world fade from my mental sight, I feel the necessity of making, as far as in my power lies, that atonement which every violator of the great law of right owes to his fellow men’…’I allude to the abduction and murder of the ill-fated William Morgan.’
Mr. Valance told how the murderers were selected:
‘Eight pieces of paper were procured, five of which were to remain blank, while the letter ‘D’ was written on the others. These pieces of paper were placed in a large box, from which each man was to draw one at the same moment. After drawing we were all to separate, without looking at the paper that each held in his hand. So soon as we had arrived at certain distances from the place of rendezvous, the tickets were to be examined, and those who held blanks were to return instantly to their homes; and those who should hold marked tickets were to proceed to the fort at midnight, and there put Morgan to death, in such a manner as should seem themselves most fitting.’
Valance spoke of the concern that Morgan had for his family as he neared his execution:
‘He commenced wringing his hands, and talking of his wife and children, the recollections of whom, in that awful hour, terribly affected him. His wife, he said was young and inexperienced, and his children were but infants; what would become of them were he cut off, and they even ignorant of his fate.?’
Valance then tells of the actual murder:
‘A short time,’… ‘brought us to the boat, and we all entered it-Morgan being placed in the bow with myself, along side of him. My comrades took the oars, and the boat was rapidly forced out into the river. The night was pitch dark, we could scarcely see a yard before us, and therefore was the time admirably adapted to our hellish purpose.’
Now weights were ready to be fastened to Morgan with a cord:
‘This cord……. I took in my hand …. and fastened it around the body of Morgan, just above his hips, using all my skill to make it fast, so that it would hold. Then, in a whisper, I bade the unhappy man to stand up, and after a momentary hesitation he complied with my order. He stood close to the head of the boat, and there was just length enough of rope from his person to the weights to prevent any strain, while he was standing. I then requested one of my associates to assist me in lifting the weights from the bottom to the side of the boat, while the others steadied her from the stern. This was done, and, as Morgan was standing with his back toward me, I approached him, and gave him a strong push with both my hands, which were placed on the middle of his back. He fell forward, carrying the weights with him, and the waters closed over the mass.’
Thus died Captain William Morgan the first Masonic martyr.
When the death of Morgan was made public, the people in America were outraged, and several state legislatures began investigations of the Mason Lodge. The following is from a report of the New York State Senate committee that was published in 1829:
It comprises men of rank, wealth, office and talents in power-and that almost in every place where power is of any importance-it comprises, among the other classes of the community, to the lowest, in large numbers, and capable of being directed by the efforts of others so as to have the force of concert through the civilized world!
They are distributed too, with the means of knowing each other, and the means of keeping secret, and the means of cooperating, in the desk, in the legislative hall, on every party of pleasure, in every enterprise of government, on the bench, and in every gathering of men of business, in every party of pleasure, in every enterprise of government, in every domestic circle, in peace and in war, among its enemies and friends, in one place as well as another. So powerful, indeed, is it at this time, that it fears nothing from violence, either public or private, for it has every means to learn it in season, to counteract, defeat and punish it…….
The New York state report also told how the Masonic Lodge was able to influence the press to keep the truth about the order from becoming known.
The public press, that mighty engine for good or for evil, has been, with a few honorable exceptions, silent as the grave. This self proclaimed sentinel of freedom, has felt the force of Masonic influence, or has been smitten with the rod of its power.
Five years later a joint committee of the legislature in the State of Massachusetts conducted an investigation of the Lodge. Their report said that the Masons were:
a distinct independent government within our own government, and beyond the control of the laws of the land by means of its secrecy, and the oaths and regulations which its subjects are bound to obey, under penalties of death.”…”in no Masonic oath presented to the committee, is there any reservation made of the constitution and the laws of the land.” The Joint Committee of the Massachusetts House found Freemasonry to be a, moral evil”, a “pecuniary evil) and a “political evil.”
Because of the Morgan incident and the resulting furor, it is reported that, out of a little more than fifty thousand Masons in the United States at that time, forty five thousand turned their backs upon the lodge to enter the lodge no more.
The public exposure of the evils of Freemasonry led to the establishment of the Anti-Masonic Party in 1827. The Anti-Masonic sentiment was so high that the party received 128,000 votes in 1830 and,
..15 Anti-Masonic candidates were elected to the New York Assembly in 1827,” and, “The Anti-Masonic Party won a large number of Congressional seats in 1832,”.
Millard Fillmore, who later became President of the United States was a member of the Anti-Masonic Party. In our day, historical accounts of the Morgan incident are rarely given and when they are references are made to the, apparent’ murder of Morgan and little or nothing is said of the fact that the revelation of these events almost eradicated the blight of Freemasonry from America.
The fact is, the basic doctrines and goals of Freemasonry have not changed since those days, the only thing that has changed is the public’s perception of the Lodge.
I will now proceed to give the reasons why a Christian can not be a Mason, after he has learned the truth about the lodge.
It is possible for a Mason to be a Christian because of the deceptive nature and practices of the Lodge, but the evidence is so clear that all who know Jesus as savior and Lord will be led to agree that the only honest alternative for a born again Mason is for them to leave and renounce the Lodge.
In the reasons that follow, the Lodge will be shown to stand condemned by the words of their own authorities and the real truth about the Masonic lodge will be revealed.
1.Jesus strictly forbids the swearing of oaths.
But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: {35} Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. {36} Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. {37} But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
Matthew 5:34-37
As you read for yourself the terrible death oaths that are sworn to in the first three degrees of the Masonic Lodge it is easy to see that not only are they a direct violation of the command of Jesus but truly they are from the evil one. Part of the oath of the first degree of Masonry for the Entered Apprentice degree is as follows:
;binding myself under no less penalty than to have my throat cut across, my tongue torn out by the roots, and my body buried in the rough sands of the sea at low water-mark, where the tide ebbs and flows twice in twenty-four hours; so help me God, and keep me steadfast in the due performance of the same.
A severe penalty indeed for revealing the secrets of Freemasonry as William Morgan found out. Part of the oath in the second degree of Masonry, the Fellow Craft Degree is as follows:
To all which I do most solemnly and sincerely promise and swear without the least hesitation, mental reservation, or self evasion of mind in me whatever; binding myself under no less penalty than to have my left breast torn open and my heart and vitals taken from thence and thrown over my left shoulder and carried into the valley of Jehosaphat, there to become a prey to the wild beasts of the field, and vulture of the air, if ever I should prove willfully guilty of violating any part of this my solemn oath or obligation of a Fellow Craft Mason; so help me God, and keep me steadfast in the due performance of the same.
The word of God speaks about swearing oaths.
But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
James 5:12
It should be clear to the truth seeking Mason that according to God’s word, the swearing of such terrible death oaths in the name of god will surely lead to condemnation.
Part of the oath in the third degree or Master Mason is as follows:
To all which I do most sincerely promise and swear, with a fixed and steady purpose of mind in me to keep and perform the same, binding myself under no less penalty than to have my body severed in two in the midst, and divided to the North and South, my bowels burnt to ashes in the center, and the ashes scattered before the four winds of heaven, that there might not the least track or trace of remembrance remain among men, or Masons, of so vile and perjured a wretch as I should be, were I ever to prove willfully guilty of violating any part of this my solemn oath or obligation of a Master Mason. So help me God, and keep me steadfast in the due performance of the same.
2. We are to provide things honest in the sight of all men.
Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
Romans 12:17
In the oath of the Master Mason, the Mason swears to keep all of the secrets of his brother Masons, even criminal secrets. The only two crimes that he does not have to keep quiet about are murder and treason and it is left up to the Mason if he wants to hide these crimes also.
Furthermore do I promise and swear that a Master Mason’s secrets, given to me in charge as such, and I knowing them to be such, shall remain as secure and inviolable in my breast as in his own, when communicated to me, murder and treason excepted; and they left to my own election.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Exodus 20:14
3. The oath of the Master Mason puts a new twist on this commandment making it wrong in the case of a woman who is part of the Master Masons family, but failing to forbid adultery and fornication if the woman belongs to the family of a non-Mason.
Furthermore do I promise and swear that I will not violate the chastity of a Master Mason’s wife, mother, sister, or daughter. I knowing them to be such, nor suffer it to be done by others, if in my power to prevent it.
4.
The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Deuteronomy 29:29
God has given Christians the Holy Spirit and his word as their source of truth. Christians are not to pursue the secret arts and mysteries, as the ritual of first degree of Masonry requires them to do.
“What comest thou hither to do?”
Ans. “To learn to subdue my passions, and improve myself in the secret arts and mysteries of ancient Freemasonry.”
5.
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. {14} But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
2 Timothy 3:13-14
The Masonic lodge does not accept the Bible as the inspired word of God. While the Bible can be used on the ‘altar of Freemasonry’, they claim that the Koran, the Vedas or other false scriptures from other religions have just as much right to be used on the altar. A Masonic book states:
The explanation of the presence of the Holy Bible on the altar could not tell the whole story, although true in itself. It represents the Sacred Book of the Law, but has not exclusive rights as such on the altar of Freemasonry, for the supremely sane reason that no one religion has exclusive rights within the Fraternity. The Vedas of the Brahman, the Zendavesta of Parsee, the Koran of the Mohammedan, have among Masons of these faiths, as rightful a place upon our altar as the Holy Bible.
6.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Acts 4:12
When a person joins the Masonic lodge, he is joining a religion that is not Christianity! The Masonic Encyclopedia, that was written by Masonic authorities, will tell you this fact. Freemasonry is a religion. A Masonic Encyclopedia states:
Masonry , then, is, indeed, a religious institution; and on this ground mainly, if not alone, should the religious Mason defend it.
7.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6
Not only do Masonic authorities admit that Freemasonry is a religion, they also say that it is a religion that will accept people no matter what creed they hold. This denies Jesus as the only way of salvation. The Masonic Lodge along with the New Age movement, claims to be able to bring men of all faiths together. This is helping to build the coming one world religion of the Anti-christ. A Masonic Encyclopedia states:
But the religion of Masonry is not sectarian. It admits men of every creed within its hospitable bosom, rejecting none and approving none for his peculiar faith.
8.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:44
Masonry teaches that God is the Father of all mankind in direct opposition to the teaching of Jesus Christ. It goes on to say that this Anti-Christian lie is worth dying for and that if you live according to this ideal you can expect eternal life. A Masonic Book states:
Thus Masonry is a great fellowship of men of all countries and all ages who are capable of discovering in the religious teachings of all humanity, some of them crude indeed, the fundamental truth common to them all, that God is the father of all mankind, and all men are brethren: that this principle is worth dying for: and that he who remains steadfast in the service of this ideal may well hope for and expect immortal life.
9.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exodus 20:3
The Mason prays to a god that they call the Supreme Architect of the Universe. This is not the God of the Bible who only accepts those who come to Him through Jesus Christ, but some ‘god’ that accepts men no matter what their religious belief is. This clearly shows the Supreme Architect of the Universe to be a false god. An example of such a Masonic prayer is as follows:
Supreme Architect of the Universe ! accept our humble praises for the many mercies and blessings which thy bounty has conferred upon us, and especially for this friendly and social intercourse. Pardon, we beseech thee, whatever thou hast seen amiss in us since we have been together.
10.
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. {11} And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: {12} That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2 Thessalonians 2:10-12
The Masonic Lodge teaches another way of salvation that leads many to trust their Masonic, religion for eternal life instead of accepting Jesus Christ as savior A Masonic Encyclopedia states:
Freemasonry has a religious service to commit the body of a deceased brother to the dust whence it came, and to speed the liberated spirit back to the great source of light. Many Freemasons make this flight with no other guarantee of a safe landing than their belief in the religion of Freemasonry.
11.
11.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: {9} Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
The Masonic Lodge teaches another way of salvation, salvation by works, which is a false hope and will lead many to hell. Salvation by works is plainly taught in the first degree of Masonry by the lambskin.
“Why did the Worshipful Master present you with a lambskin or white apron?”
Ans. “The lambskin has, in all ages, been deemed an emblem innocence; he therefore, who wears the lambskin as a badge of a Mason, is thereby continually reminded of that purity of life and rectitude of conduct which is so essentially necessary to our gaining admission into the celestial lodge above, where the Supreme Architect of the Universe presides.”
Salvation by works is also taught in the lecture of the first degree of Masonry by the rough ashlar and perfect ashlar.
“Ans. “The rough ashlar represents man in his rude and imperfect state by nature; the perfect ashlar also represents man in that state of perfection to which we all hope to arrive by means of a virtuous life and education, our own endeavors, and the blessing of God.”
Truly the grace of God is left out and man is taught to seek God’s blessing through his own effort. John Ankerburg explains how the Masonic Manual teaches men will be rewarded according to their works by the occult symbol of the All-Seeing Eye.
Every Masonic Manual explains the symbol of the “All-Seeing Eye,”one of the symbols for God, with these words: “The All-Seeing Eye, who pervades the inmost recesses of the human heart, will reward us, according to our works, our merits.”What is the reward man will get because of his good works? Masonry teaches God will reward man with eternal life in the Celestial Lodge above.
12.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Ephesians 4:15
The Bible tells us that we are to speak the truth in love, yet Albert Pike admits that Masons are deliberately misled as to the real meaning of the Masonic symbols. Ralph Epperson in his book,’The New World Order,’ explains how this works.
So the secrets of the Masons do not even belong to all of the Masons. Some Masons know and some other Masons do not know the meanings of the secrets. But the interesting thing is that the Masons who do not know are being lied to by those who do. Albert Pike confirmed that this statement was true by writing this in the book that used to be read by all Masons inside the Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, Masonic Order, entitled Morals and Dogma:
“The Blue degrees [the first three degrees of the 32nd degree] are but the outer court or portico [a covered walk] of the Temple.
Part of the symbols are displayed there to the Initiate, but he is intentionally misled by false interpretations.
It is not intended that he shall understand them; but it is intended that he shall imagine that he shall understand them.
Their true explication is reserved for the Adepts, the Princes of Masonry.”…
The Initiate is being lied to by his own fellow Masons!! one brother is lying to another!! Some of the Masons are concealing the true meaning of the secrets from other Masons. This is the way that Powerful Masons operate, the organization that men of rank, wealth, office and talent are joining?
Pike repeated that position inside the same book, but on another page:
Masonry conceals its secrets from all except the Adepts and Sages, or the elect, and uses false explanations and misinterpretations of its symbols to mislead those who deserve only to be misled; to conceal the Truth, which it calls Light, from them, and to draw them away from it….
13.
13.
And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: {2} With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. {3} So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. {4} And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: {5} And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Revelation 17:1-5
We have already shown that Masonry is a religion. Not only is it a religion, but worse than that, Freemasonry is the religion of Mystery Babylon! The Masons themselves admit that their religion comes from tire pagan mystery religions. The following Masonic author admits this fact in plain language.
The idea that lies behind the Hiramic legend is as old as religious thinking among men. The same elements existed in the story of Osirus, which was celebrated by the Egyptians in their ancient temples: The old Persians told it concerning Mithras, their hero god. In Syria, the Dionysian Mysteries had the-very same elements in the story of Dionysius: for the Romans, Bacchus was the god who died and lived again. Their is also the story of Tammuz, older than any of these. These are collectively referred to as the ancient mysteries They were celebrated by secret societies, much like ours, with allegorical ceremonies, during which the initiates were advanced from one degree to another in these old societies. Read these old stories for yourself and marvel how men in all ages have taught the same great truths in the same effective way.
In the Third Degree of Masonry, the Master Mason degree, the candidate plays the part of Hiram Abiff and goes through a mock death and resurrection It would be hard to even think of an argument that a Christian could present to justify taking part in a pagan religious ritual.
Alice Bailey, one of the key members of the New Age Religion wrote:
There is no question therefore that the work to be done in familiarizing the general public with the nature of the Mysteries is of paramount importance at this time. These Mysteries will be restored to outer expression through the medium of the church and the Masonic Fraternity…
14.
14.
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 8:12
A Christian has the light of Jesus Christ and is not in darkness; he has The Light of Life.
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Colossians 1:13
The Christian has been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of Jesus Christ. In the first Degree of Masonry the candidate must admit to being in darkness and in search of the light of the Lodge.
“Brother, what do you most desire?”
Ans. “Light”
Master to Brethren, “Brethren, stretch forth your hands and assist in bringing this new made brother from darkness to light.”
15.
Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
John 18:20
Jesus taught what he did out in the open because he had a message of truth that he wanted to convey to the world. To be Christian is to be Christ like and do like Jesus did. It makes me wonder why the Masonic Lodge wants to keep its teachings secret if they are as true as they say they are. It also makes me wonder that since they do try to keep their teachings secret, what are they trying to hide?
If you are a Mason and not a Christian, I pray that this booklet will encourage you to trust Jesus Christ as-your savior and Lord. If you are a Mason and a Christian I pray that this booklet will help you to realize that you are involved in something that is very unchristian and unpleasing to God. May God give you the grace and courage to renounce the Lodge and follow the Lord Jesus Christ.

If your heart has been touched and you wish to resign (demit) from any affiliation with the Masonry organization, Copy or print out and fill out the form below and send to the organization’s office. Although they may protest, continue to send you materials, or may not even acknowledge your letter, you will officially have broken the physical ties to the lodge. A copy of your form should be sent to your pastor or a Christian friend you trust.
You will also need to pray for God to forgive you for being disobedient and sinful and also pray to break any soul ties, iniquities, demons, and word curses that may be attached to you by participating in the oaths involved in the rituals.
Seek fellowship in a Bible believing group that takes a stand for the truth in God’s word and acknowledges that Masonry is not compatible with Christianity.
May God bless you in your decision.
